Here's the story in a nutshell: an offbeat Naval Officer takes command of a antiquated diesel powered submarine for a series of war games against a high tech nuclear submarine. The crew he is given is full of misfits. At one point, they actually make the executive officer (who is extremely unpopular among the crew) walk the plank!!!! Lots of "Arr's" throughout that sequence and other points later in the film. My late father was a submariner and he absolutely loved this film! Even if you have no interest in submarines, etc....the movie is funny and is worth viewing!nondisclosed_email@example.com (Jenny30)Mon, 03 Dec 2007 22:15:27 +0000 Re: Robert Newton, patron saint of movie pirateshttps://brobertnewton.runboard.com/p271,from=rss#post271https://brobertnewton.runboard.com/p271,from=rss#post271*gasp* I've seen a piece of that before, not enough to get into it but I've seen maybe 1 1/2 minutes of it. What's it even about? Does Robert Newton play in it???nondisclosed_email@example.com (RICKY RICARDO)Mon, 03 Dec 2007 19:38:05 +0000 Re: Robert Newton, patron saint of movie pirateshttps://brobertnewton.runboard.com/p267,from=rss#post267https://brobertnewton.runboard.com/p267,from=rss#post267Has anyone seen the film, 'Down Periscope'? I haven't but I'll have to add that to the list on the website. Thanks! Sorry for the lack of updates. I've been sick for the last couple of weeks and before that ... well, it's just been one thing after another this year! nondisclosed_email@example.com (vampyrate)Sat, 01 Dec 2007 06:55:57 +0000 Re: Robert Newton, patron saint of movie pirateshttps://brobertnewton.runboard.com/p256,from=rss#post256https://brobertnewton.runboard.com/p256,from=rss#post256Has anyone seen the film, 'Down Periscope'? It's a comedy about a wacky submarine crew. There are a lot of "arr's", and hilarious pirate homages. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Jenny30)Wed, 28 Nov 2007 21:55:17 +0000 Robert Newton, patron saint of movie pirateshttps://brobertnewton.runboard.com/p20,from=rss#post20https://brobertnewton.runboard.com/p20,from=rss#post20This is a topic for general discussion and comparison of Robert Newton's innovative performances as Long John Silver and Blackbeard (in three films and a TV series), as well as his lasting influence on popular culture.nondisclosed_email@example.com (vampyrate)Sat, 21 Oct 2006 18:14:53 +0000
