I haven't watched the movie in quite a while, but reading your description, that certainly sounds like that emoticon was his intention. (And having read the book, I wouldn't put anything past ol' Clive!)

Yes, I [sign in to see URL] have never read the book, but it did seem as though he was going to kill Storm. Is the film fairly close to the book?
I think for me the creepiest thing about Clive is the fact that he's so bloody calm as he's carrying out the steps of his "perfect murder". He really did think he was pretty smart. Lucky for us Monty was smarter!
In this instance, the old saying doesn't quite fit: curiosity did not kill the dog.

He's much more evil in the book! One scene in particular still gives me shivers. (Maybe Sue can provide more details? She generously lent me her copy, and, being such a slow reader, I really just skimmed it in order to get it back to her. I think she actually gave it a proper reading.)

And just describing it! I thought that was the scariest part of the whole movie. The way his face was lit, I think that's the only time Robert Newton has every literally scared me.

True but ... have you seen the cat around?

Look at this news article that I found out at the IMDb. It looks like we are going to get treated to another version of 'Obsession', but in an American format this time. However, I cannot imagine that it will be able to beat Bobbie's version. Even aside from that fact that Bobbie was in the film, (which makes it the best for us RN fans, right?) just the post WWII set and the London location made this version perfect. It made of kind of gloomy set for a gloomy subject.

"Thaddeus O'Sullivan to Direct 'Obsession'

05 Feb 2009 |

Thaddeus O'Sullivan

Irish director Thaddeus O'Sullivan (Ordinary Decent Criminal, December Bride) is being lined up to direct the new psychological thriller, ‘Obsession’ adapted from Alec Coppel's novel ‘A Man About A Dog’ by screenwriter Rob Green (House).

Screen reports the film involves a Manhattan based doctor who plots revenge against his wife's lover. Coppel’s novel has already been adapted from the screen by Edward Dmytryk in 1949’s ‘The Hidden Room’. The new version will be produced by Think Tank Films with shooting scheduled to commence later in the year in Detroit and New York. "
