EEEP!!! Yes!!! THOSE BRACES!!!!!

A thought keeps striking me. Has anyone read any of the Rudyard Kipling books? If so, is Bill's brass ring mentioned in it - and why is the ring so significant??

Or is it just an unexplained entity in the film??

Yes I LOVE that scene in the tent with Cyril pulling Bobbie's hair!! I must admit I get a bit jealous but still, it's a cracking scene. I bet those three had an absolute ball on set!!!

With all of this talk about S3, I had to watch it again last night. Yes, the hand gesture I must have noticed before but I just take it as a 'Bob' gesture. I think I've come to expect that from him. You're right, Susan, he does use his hands a lot to express himself. I know he's done it as LJS and he did it as Lukey too. In fact, he was painting a picture in that movie (I think Susan mentioned that he looked like he was ready to paint a picture emoticon )
BTW Susan: Another person that worked with Bob, and is still alive, is Michael Ansara. I don't think that we mentioned him before, did we? Anyway he was in S3. I just noticed it last night but must not have picked up on it before.

Re: Soldiers Three

I've never read Kipling's version of S3, but I did read a synopsis once, and Phil Leibfried, who wrote that article about Robert Newton as well as a full-length book on Kipling, abhors the movie because it's absolutely nothing like the original story (except, as far as I can tell, for the names of the characters). So it's probably safe to say the ring was an invention for the movie. (If anybody wants to read it for yourself, you can download it from Project Gutenberg here. It would be interesting if someone would post a comparison of the two. In fact, I can put your commentary on my S3 site and give you credit for it if you like.)

Another movie where I recall him making elaborate hand gestures was in Henry V.

Re: Soldiers Three

Okay, more on the song front...

"'Old your nose and drink this down, boy
'Old your nose and drink your beer
[blah de blah deee blah de blahhh]
Like it is in London Town
Life here is somethin' bloomin' awful
Something bloomin' 'orrible, 'orrible an' awful
'Old your nose and try to think that you was back in London"

Thank goodness for their touching parting 'Moos!" otherwise I'd've never caught that bit!!!!!

Ooo, thanks for posting that, Spev. (You got all of that just from listening to the song at the end? I'm impressed.) At least I heard most of the last two lines pretty. Now if we can just decipher the "[blah de blah deee blah de blahhh]" part!
