RIP Deborah Kerr
Perhaps you've already heard by now, but Deborah Kerr, who worked with Robert Newton in Major Barbara and Hatter's Castle and, despite his characters' brutality toward both of her characters, spoke of him as a "very dear man," passed away this past week after a long illness. Ironically, we were just talking about her on the old message board (voy.com/17058/).

Emlyn Williams
In the "Fangirly squeeage" topic, Elizabeth asked to see a color pic of Emlyn Williams, so here he is (a bit older but still quite handsome, IMO) as Sir Wilfred Falcett in The Wreck of the Mary Deare:
You can't really see his eyes too clearly from that picture, but it's obvious they're of a light color.
If you want to get a really good look at him in color, check out 1969's David Copperfield--I found the DVD for only $1 at a discount store, but unfortunately, I don't have any screencaps handy at the moment. You can see a lot of him in movie (he's really funny in a cute way), but he only has one line to say, which is ironic considering he was touring the world with his one-man Charles Dickens show at the time the movie was made. It obviously wasn't the greatest success--it was made for TV--but it boasts a lot of other illustrious names in the cast, including Laurence Olivier, Edith Evans, Ralph Richardson, Cyril Cusack, Cyril's daughter Sinéad Cusack, Michael Redgrave, etc.
Also, here's a B&W close-up of him gazing dreamily at Deborah Kerr in Major Barbara:
And if you want to see Emlyn and Bob and Deborah Kerr all together in the same frame, it wasn't easy to capture, but here they are:
(As you can see, they're adversaries as usual, and Bob is winning this time! In fact, he usually does in the end.)
Rather than stray too far from talking about Robert Newton here though, if you'd like to chat more about Emlyn Williams as an individual (as opposed to discussing his work with Bob), there's a board set up (including a topic about his looks that I didn't start!) over at http://bemlynwilliams.runboard.com. (Since it's a Runboard message board, there's no additional signing up to do.)
