(Guyliner is nice, but he actually looks cuter now.) Yeah, I think he could pull off the Bob thing lookswise. But as for his acting, I only know him as Jimmy (so far). D'oh, now I've got "5:15" stuck in my head thanks to that first pic. But there are definitely worse songs to have stuck in your head! nondisclosed_email@example.com (vampyrate)Sat, 06 Sep 2008 01:53:43 +0000 Re: Who should play Robert Newton in a biopic?https://brobertnewton.runboard.com/p638,from=rss#post638https://brobertnewton.runboard.com/p638,from=rss#post638Hello everyone!! Going back to my Phil Daniels choice, I now have what can only be described as "Pics to Prove it". Phil Daniels is on this year's Strictly Come Dancing (the British version of Dancing With The Stars) - I am SO excited about it (it was rumoured that Adam West was going to be on this year's Dancing with the Stars but it wasn't to be. For shame. Didn't they SEE him do the Batutsi in the first episode of Batman?!)... but anyway, the sexy Mod we knew and loved as Jimmy off of Quadrophenia... *sigh* Eyeliner... (Keith Moon c.1964, anyone??) Now looks wonderfully Newton-esque... Eyebrows and everything............... *sigh* nondisclosed_email@example.com (Spev)Thu, 04 Sep 2008 23:28:47 +0000 Re: Who should play Robert Newton in a biopic?https://brobertnewton.runboard.com/p466,from=rss#post466https://brobertnewton.runboard.com/p466,from=rss#post466quote:Spev wrote: My vote goes to Phil Daniels, certainly for the older Robert Newton scenes anyway. I've read the book and I saw it at the front, there's two parts to it and I'm trying to memorize the second part. I know the first part inside out.nondisclosed_email@example.com (RICKY RICARDO)Wed, 31 Oct 2007 20:10:07 +0000 Re: Who should play Robert Newton in a biopic?https://brobertnewton.runboard.com/p117,from=rss#post117https://brobertnewton.runboard.com/p117,from=rss#post117Thanks! Yes it does have a title: "To the Hesitating Purchaser". Stevenson put it at the beginning of the novel. Here's what I posted on the old message board regarding that: "GR's portrayal of Captain Barbossa is a brilliant homage. How cool of him to pay credit to RN! Hopefully it will inspire 'the wiser youngsters of today' to learn more about the man behind our dear Cap'n Silver." "So be it! And fall on!" -R.L.S. Yeah! Michael Sheen could totally play RN! I certainly have! Although it would be kind of moot to say he was awesome since he pretty much started off his film career by winning a Best Actor Oscar for it. (In fact, the first time I ever heard of him was when I saw him win the oscar.) And then he won a Best Actor Emmy for The Life and Death of Peter Sellers, which is why I'm sure he could tackle a biopic of Robert Newton if he put his mind to it. (In fact, another Geoffrey fan I know who was lucky enough to meet him and talk to him for a good length of time told me that he's a fan of RN, which increases his awesomeness even more.)nondisclosed_email@example.com (vampyrate)Mon, 29 Oct 2007 23:23:47 +0000 Re: Who should play Robert Newton in a biopic?https://brobertnewton.runboard.com/p104,from=rss#post104https://brobertnewton.runboard.com/p104,from=rss#post104I've never heard of Michael Sheen, but I definitly know who Geoffrey Rush is sexy!!! he is, no kidding!!!! have you ever seen him in the movie Shine?nondisclosed_email@example.com (RICKY RICARDO)Mon, 29 Oct 2007 19:18:53 +0000 Re: Who should play Robert Newton in a biopic?https://brobertnewton.runboard.com/p102,from=rss#post102https://brobertnewton.runboard.com/p102,from=rss#post102To tell you the truth, I'm a little tired of Johnny Depp--he's the new Tom Hanks in terms of overexposure. He's a good actor, but I really can't see him as Robert Newton personally. Now Geoffrey Rush, when he was younger, with the right make-up job ... Well, Geoffrey Rush can do anything as far as I'm concerned! Another young actor I really admire (who'd also need a good amount of make-up, but who I think really has the right charisma) is Michael Sheen. But he's already plagued with accusations of playing too many real-life people. For example, he just played Tony Blair in The Queen (after playing him a few years ago in another movie), and he's now filming Frost/Nixon, which I got to see him in on Broadway a couple of months ago playing David Frost. He's amazingly versatile and really knows how to steal a scene. (He first caught my eye as an over-the-top rock star in Laws of Attraction; he was the best part of the movie. He was also a heartless villain in Timeline and a sexy villain in Underworld. I really believe he could play any part convincingly.) nondisclosed_email@example.com (vampyrate)Sun, 28 Oct 2007 23:21:08 +0000 Re: Who should play Robert Newton in a biopic?https://brobertnewton.runboard.com/p98,from=rss#post98https://brobertnewton.runboard.com/p98,from=rss#post98YES THAT'S HIS NAME!!! well, i was on the right track. he did look alot like him, i didn't know they were the same age though. i've never seen him in a role before. would Johnny Depp be a good one? he's got the pirate part already!nondisclosed_email@example.com (RICKY RICARDO)Sun, 28 Oct 2007 00:07:35 +0000 Re: Who should play Robert Newton in a biopic?https://brobertnewton.runboard.com/p97,from=rss#post97https://brobertnewton.runboard.com/p97,from=rss#post97quote:RICKY RICARDO wrote: isn't Glenn dead? He would be good if he's still alive. I can't remember his last name, help me out Susan. Are you talking about Leo Genn? Yes, he's gone now. Hmm, I agree, looks-wise, he's perfect--lots of people have mistaken them for each other. And he had a lot of charisma too. But I don't think I ever saw him in a role where he conveyed the raw machismo that Newton had in real life. He usually played more stately, debonaire characters, like Dr. McDreamy--I mean, Dr. Kik in The Snake Pit. (Ah, yes, when they send me away to the loony bin, I definitely want him for my psychiatrist.) And then there was the staid French constable in Henry V. I think the most he reminded of Bob was as Starbuck in Moby Dick. Another reason I don't think it would have worked: they were exactly the same age!nondisclosed_email@example.com (vampyrate)Sat, 27 Oct 2007 22:54:51 +0000 Re: Who should play Robert Newton in a biopic?https://brobertnewton.runboard.com/p96,from=rss#post96https://brobertnewton.runboard.com/p96,from=rss#post96isn't Glenn dead?
