Re: Help!
Really, Photoshop can do it? How? Amazing the technology they have these days! What'll they think of next? (And with those words, I am officially old.)

PhotoMagic does it better,IMHO, and it is an OLD program, as those things go. Windows 3.1. What would that be? 10+ years?

Re: Help!
How do you like the flashing text on my avatar? I do that with the help of another "old" program. I have always been fascinated with animated gifs. For instance, I could do a series of different pics of Bobbie, alternating with each other.

Re: Help!
Windows 3.1?? Yikes, that's gotta be more than 12 years old since it must've come before Windows 95. I checked and I don't have PhotoMagic on this antique computer, even though it's well over 10 years old.
Hmm, the flashing gif ... Well, it's nice to see your picture (and that of your equine friend--what's his/her name?), but personally I'm not crazy about flashing images on my computer screen. With my ADD, they seriously distract me from reading the content on the page. At the same time, I have seen some that were less distracting, probably because they don't involve so many flashing bright colors or the images change more slowly/smoothly.
I've always wanted to know how to make one. Is there an easy way that you recommend? I know you can do it in ImageReady, but the one time I tried it, it was kind of a long, laborious process. Their popularity would suggest there has to be an easier way

No, you wouldn't. It came with my first scanner; a hand-held made by Mustek.

I changed it a bit, so it just has red and nothing, and a slower flash. Is it better for you this way? I hate to remove the flash altogether.

I use a program called GIF Construction Set that I downloaded from the web. I create the individual images in PhotoMagic, and then load them into GCS, where I determine speed, transparency, etc. It will also make banners of assorted kinds. You can see quite a few different ones on my web site, www.meranch.com
I just love to play with that kind of stuff!

... But I will if it still bothers you.

Yes, much less distracting for me, thanks ... but then it's your avatar, which is supposed to be an expression of you; I didn't mean for you to change it just for little old me! It's just that, well, you asked, and following Robert Newton's example, I had to be honest. Other people might feel differently. Also, I wouldn't categorically dismiss all flashing GIFs; I've seen the feature used to really clever effect. For example, this icon of Geoffrey Rush in Elizabeth created by LiveJournal user "jurious" (http://jurious.livejournal.com) is one of my favorites:
http://userpic.livejournal.com/66399234/2446340
And there are a ton of great animated Geoffrey icons in this person's journal:

That AFI dance is the best! Yeah, it's a little distracting, but partially because of its subject matter. I guess I just have a hard time with bright, rapidly changing colors.
Thanks for the info about the GIF Construction Set; I'll try to track down a copy.

Me too, as long I feel like I'm playing and not sweating bullets trying to figure it out!
PS: Did you happen to catch my comment in the "Fangirly squeeage" thread that you can post images here after all? Just click the "Insert Image" button above the composition window and paste in the URL to your image. (It has to already be online though.) Or enclose it between IMG and /IMG tags (bounded by square brackets).

Have to try that. Here's one of my favorite anigifs:
It's from the home page of my web site.

Re: Help!
It worked! Very cool image. Is it from a movie or something?
