Bobby alert!

Here's a place to announce upcoming events (such as the showing of a rare movie on TV) featuring Robert Newton.

Due to the nature of this topic, outdated announcements may be deleted over time by the moderator. (Discussions about specific movies and performances should take place under the appropriate topic in the "Film, TV and stage work" forum.)

For those of you who would like to see RN look-alike Leo Genn, the movie 'Quo Vadis' will be on Turner Classic Movies this Thursday, May 1 @ 8:00pm. He plays Petronius.

Also on TCM this week is a Daphne DuMaurier sweep on Saturday, May 3. Starting at 8:00PM is 'Rebecca', at 10:30PM is one of our RN favorites 'Jamaica Inn'. Then at 12:15AM is the 'Scapegoat'. At 2:00AM (for those of you who stay up late) is 'Hungry Hill' and then, for you real night owls, at 3:45 is 'The Birds'. Of course, RN is only in JI but you may just be interested in a few DuMaurier stories.

Thanks, Sue! I've been wanting to see Quo Vadis. And you know I'm a night owl.

So do I take it you have TCM now? emoticon

Got it, thanks, just sent you one back. BTW, did everybody see the new Robert Newton quiz I posted in the Miscellaneous forum? (Since it's a new topic, it won't generate an e-mail to let you know about replies until you subscribe to it.) Hope you'll take the test.

Robert Newton on the big screen in June!

Just in time for Robert Newton's birth-month (but ostensibly in honor of what would have been David Lean's 100th birthday), the BFI will be showing three (count 'em) of Robert Newton's films at the National Film Theatre in London: Major Barbara, This Happy Breed, and Oliver Twist! Click here
for more details about the festival and links to schedule.

PS: Spev, if you happen make it down there, it looks like they're also showing a couple of Tony Hancock films!

Re: Bobby alert!

We have a treat from TCM for the month of July, 2010. Three RN movies will be shown:

Around the World in 80 Days on 7/6/2010 @11:15 PM
Odd Man Out on 7/7/2010 @ 11:30 PM
Oliver Twist on 7/22/2010 @3:45 PM

I do not recall Odd Man Out being shown on TCM in the past. Then again, I just may have missed it. Anyway, enjoy and have a great July.

Hello Newton Fans,
The star of the month for September on TCM is Vivien Leigh and with that the showing of two of her films with RN. They are:

Dark Journey (1937) @9:00 PM on 9/7
Fire Over England (1936) @ 8:00 PM on 9/21

  Happy viewing! emoticon

Thanks, Sue! Just did the updates. Lots of Bobbie films showing in September (and don't forget Talk Like a Pirate Day on the 19th)--check out the calendar ... especially if you'll be in or near London and want to see him in one of his best films on the big screen!
