Re: Introductions

Hello everybody, and welcome.... Hello!!

It's me, Spev!! Hi!!! *waves*

Erm... I'm from the UK, and I love Robert Newton. Actually I love a lot of actors from that sort of era. But Bobbie's totally up there with my favourites. The first film I saw him in, like most people here, was Treasure Island, and I still can't get used to the fact he has two legs in the other films... I love him in Night Boat To Dublin - so cool!!!! He was just darkly comic enough to have made an amazing name for himself in the film noir genre. He was perfectly evil in Obsession. Great film. Scares the life out of me. I still get chills just thinking about him saying "It was in the Martini"...

At the moment I'm floating from one rubbishy secretary job to another but I'm now more actively writing comedy in the hopes that a television/radio bigwig will read it and realise they want me to work for them!

Aside from all things Bobbie, I'm a bit of a 1960s throwback and am crazy about 60s music - my favourite bands are The Who-> and The Monkees. Odd combination, I know, but that's how it's been since I was 15 and I'm far too loyal to start changing my mind now!!!

Hello!!

You know I thought for some odd reason I'd opted to get a notification email when anyone replied to me here and I thought it was a bit quiet... such a fool am I!!!

No, Treasure Island and Jamaica Inn are my two firm favourites - but I do love Soldiers Three, it doesn't half make me chuckle. Jamaica Inn, obviously, featuring that wonderful defining moment when Bobbie threatened to take Maureen O'Hara's dress off her. I'm sure we all thought something along the lines of "Crikey!"

Yes - I like my avatar too!! I really like yours, Susan, I could NEVER manage to make one of those moving .gif thingies!

Right - think I've bored you all enough for one post!!

Oh goodie, so glad you came back to check! emoticon

Unfortunately, you can't subscribe to the whole board, if that's what you were trying to do; you have to subscribe to each individual topic. I hope it's working for you now.

I've been a webmaster for close to ten years now, and I only just figured it out! I'm sure you could too.

Okay. I don't have a clue what I'm doing. I guess I'm registered. I quit finishing the registration thing when it asked me to make a mesage board? I think. That was about 2 hours ago. I've been reading all of the site. It really is terrific and I would like to be a part of it. But I am not going to write any more 'til I know somebody, (Susan?) gets this. How will I know? Will it pop up here? Is anybody actually there now? Lacy J

Thank you Jenny, and hello! I've never done a chat room before. Can people talk in real time? Is there a way to talk directly to Susan? Not necessarily privately. If I'm going to do a lot of this, Ill have to go get on my pc. This old laptop is too eccentric. If I'm going to talk to more of you should I get on another thread? Lacy ps I don't even know how to insert a happy face let alone an avatar. I'll have to read all these postings more carefully.

Re: Introductions

Hi, Lacy, and welcome! Nice to have you here. Thanks for going to all the trouble to sign up and figure this all out. It's fun once you get the hang of it. Let us know if you need any help.

To answer your question, this isn't actually a live conversation (you're thinking of, like, a chatroom or instant-messenger conference). I suppose the "chatboard" link might be a little confusing. (It just sounded friendlier than the usual "message board" or "forum.") This is a forum where members can contribute to the discussion at their convenience. But you can get e-mail alerts of responses to your postings either by checking "Get notifications when someone replies" below your post or subscribing to any and all topics of interest to you (which would be via the "Subscribe to this topic" link above). (Of course, whenever a new topic is created, you have to subscribe to it separately. As of now, there's no way to subscribe to the whole board.)

Sorry I've been so remiss in visiting the board, updating the site, etc. (LOL, there's no such thing as a website that isn't under construction ... cuz as soon as you think it's finished, people will start declaring it dead or saying things like, "If you're not going to maintain the site, can I buy it from you?"! Arrrgggh! And I don't mean "arrr." Reminds me of putting your fork down in the middle of a meal and having someone ask, "If you're not going to finish that, can I have it?")

Don't want to bore everybody with my personal problems, but, besides being overwhelmed with other stuff right now, I'm also battling an Internet addiction that really isn't good for the arthritis in my neck. (After I finish the main project I'm working on, I'll work on getting a more ergonomic setup so's I can come around and play more often!)

You can contact me privately by clicking on my username and sending me an e-mail PM. But I'm also subscribed to all the existing topics here, so if you post a reply to one, I'll get an e-mail alert anyway. (Unfortunately, I haven't been checking my e-mail every day; it's been more like once a week lately! But don't worry, I've not gone away completely and don't intend to ... God willing!)
