From what I read, Tom Durkin's call of the race made quite a stir. Fans of the horse loved it! I will probably try to pull it up on the Blood Horse website.

Yeah; Morning Joe ran the clip too; TWICE!

I'd never heard of this horse before! Amazing where reminders of Bobbie and Long John show up. Does anyone know whether the owner of the horse is a Robert Newton/Long John Silver fan, or just a fan of Pirates in general?

Let us know what you find.

Does anyone know how to put a clip on you-tube <sp>? It should be shared!

Eva,
I did find this clipping but I can't access the video because I'm at work and it's blocked.

"Week one at Saratoga concluded with my favorite pirate horse (featured here many times) Arrrrr breaking his maiden in stirring fashion (you could even say I called it in yesterday's post). Tom Durkin's call is classic and is featured today by Ruben at Average Horse Player, give it a listen it is worth the time. Of course now that he broke his maiden, the Saratoga Resident has given me a chore to find a magic horse so we can use this week's joke: Magician walks down an alley...turns into a bar! The boy needs some new material. Congrats again to Mike Luzzi and Arrrrr!

Splendid! I'll have to go have a look even though it'll take half an hour to load emoticon

Here are some snappys of Arrrrr:

At the beginning of the stretch.

Taking the lead.

Crossing the finish line.

---------------------

Apologies for the double-exposure look of the pics; every frame looked like that. Usually one can find frames that do not, but not this time.

---------------------

David Schuster on MSNBC showed the clip too. emoticon It must be just everywhere by now.

I just watched the 'Arrrrr' race on YouTube. It is great. Tom Durkin outdid himself on that call. Hope you all can play it. I guess Arrrrr will have to become our 'token' horse, huh?

Absolutely! How could we not, with a name like that?

We'll have to watch out for more coverage of "our" horse.

LOL ... don't you mean "arrrr" horse? emoticon (Depending on your accent, of course.)

Re: Robert Newton Tributes/Impersonations

This month on TCM they are doing a tribute to Walt Disney's live-action movies and, of course, being the first, Treasure Island is mentioned. They are playing this 90 minute program on: 12/14, 12/21, and 12/28. I saw the one on Sunday and they do show some scenes from TI and speak a little (very little) about RN and Bobby Driscoll. But it was worth watching just for the Disney history (and seeing Bob's face on the screen in something other than playing a dvd).
Have a happy holiday season everyone and take care.
