Robert Newton's birthday
June 1 is Robert Newton's birthday. Post your thoughts here and/or mention if you're doing anything to celebrate.

Re: Robert Newton's birthday
To commemorate Robert Newton's birthday, I'm thinking of finally dusting off the last remaining film I have of his that I haven't watched yet (been saving it for a special occasion!): Les Miserables.

Re: Robert Newton's birthday
Susan, Oh, go ahead and watch it! It's not my favorite, but it's not the worst either. It's just the character he plays is not that sympathetic. Let us know what you think of it. I certainly liked this verson better than the 1935 one with Frederic March and Charles Laughton. And can you guess who Charles Laughton played?? RN could certainly play the part with more 'feeling' than CL (in my opinion).

Re: Robert Newton's birthday
I think I'll pop in some LJS (because I can't resist!), This Happy Breed, and then Henry V, and watch Ancient Pistol steal the show!
Speaking of Shakespeare, Good Ol' Will said it better than I ever could:
"When to the sessions of sweet silent thought
I summon up remembrance of things past,...
Then can I drown an eye, unused to flow,
For precious friends hid in death's dateless night,...
Then can I grieve at grievances foregone,...
But if the while I think on thee, dear friend,
All losses are restor'd and sorrows end." [Sonnett XXX]
Happy Birthday, Bobbie darling!!!
--- Jenny
"Let floods o'erswell, and fiends for food howl on!" Ancient Pistol.
